Given this trope suprisingly often occurances in comicbooks that are supposed to be for children I see no reason to remove this... Razz

That was the conclusion I came to, but understand the decision is ultimately up to you.  I'll post a few more that are funny and sum up the problems or fun with certain tropes.  Like I've said before, not all tropes are bad.  Sometimes, not sticking to the trope can cause dissonance that upsets readers/ viewers/ players/ ect..  Sometimes not sticking to a trope can subvert it and make it far more interesting than before.  It really goes in how you use them and the over-all feel you go with a story.

For instance, the next one can be played strait for comedic effect, employed as part of an adventure or action set-piece or can be subverted by a little slice of reality (as in the comic).

Convection Schmonvection: the ignoring of the laws of heat revolving around lava.  Common in TV and Video Games.

Harmless Freezing: Just read up on what freezing does to the body.  (I'm looking at you Captain America!)

Ever notice that the Heroes never have to pay for any laws they break or property they destroy in the pursuit of hero-ing? Usually it's swept under the rug. Sometimes they address it, usually to comedic effect, in order to lampshade the issue.

While I hate to speak for people, Ris is probably asleep for the night and I feel the need to throw in my two cents. I read Ris' post as a joke. An extremely poor taste joke, but a joke none-the-less. Muffin had just taken a jab at Ris and the forum, and judging by when it was posted, it was shortly after the forum started. In such a short time, I imagine (I'm sure you can confirm this for me as well, Lucan, you've had similar experiences by now) that Ris was still nervous as to whether this will get off the ground or whether he can draw in new recruits, so was probably being a bit too defensive and thus accidentally over-reached with a poor joke. I do hope he (Ristiald) apologizes, but I also hope (if I'm right) you'll forgive him and there is no hard feelings between the two of you.

Now onto more funny tropes as portrayed in short comic strips?

You know, I've always wondered why a Daemon has never abused this trope to stop someone from using a book of true names.

Okay... best subversion of this, classic and somewhat campy trope I think I'd ever seen.

I'm sure all of us are farmiliar with
Critical Failure: Mostly an RPG Trope that can be difficult to pull off in any other form, the result of a critical failure is represented by a finite (if somewhat comically large at times) chance that anything you do (though usually limited in RPG's to more dangerous tasks such as combat) can backfire on you, miss or just fail; usually in some spectacularly bad fashion.

Yeah, sorry Lucan.
Muffin tried to undermine the point of me doing this, I decided to take back at her by undermining the point of her doing something else. This was the first thing I came up with at the time.
No harm to you intended.

This is probably my favorite opening joke to a show, ever.

"Yeah, welcome to the club, pal."

I haven't watched Simpsons in years, and only hopped onto the Rick and Morty bandwagon after incessantly hearing how great it was (sometimes the bandwagon is correct).  So here's this as well.

It's so aggressively nihilistic that I found it absolutely refreshing and hilarious (sometimes in a bleak sense, sometimes in a superiority sense). Definitely worth the time you put into it. Especially for someone like yourself, Ris.

I was going to ask how you liked Rick and Morty, now that you've jumped in.  But it was on another thread and I didn't want to derail it...
So... um... above question?

Also, yes. I love youtube for the amount of content. There are definitely some gems there. Legitimate news there too. Man, we live in interesting times...

Rick and Morty...
They go to lenghts to gross people out, but I like that main message is pretty clear for each episode. There's much to learn in it, and it's made in easily digestible bites.
Overall- 7/10. IMO obviously. Razz

I actually don't mind much of the gross-out humor. I occasionally find random and mundane things to be kind of gross (such as feet. Just stare at your feet... or your nose in a mirror... in general these body parts are pretty gross and weird-looking) so the gross-out-humor falls right-in-line with my idea of laughing at the world. But yeah, the messages they hit in the episodes can be deep or resoundingly human (and often impress me that a show would actually tackle that. But that might just be limited American Television. We make so much we export a lot of it, but don't import a lot of shows... except from Japan).

I also disagree with MatPat just a little on the Film Theory Video. I doubt that the Galactic Government or whatever it's called (spacing on name, limited on time not looking it up now) actually has enough information to track inter-dimensional travel. But I have no proof, that's just a guess. Maybe the very presence of the Council of Reeds... sorry, Ricks - disproves my idea. Why would the Ricks need to band together to fight off their respective Galactic Governments? My main complaint is probably a victim of flawed logic: wouldn't the presence or possibility of a portal gun mean that the laws of the uni/multi-verse are in such a way that it is possible to build a stable bridge across multiple universes? In other words, isn't the very fact that Rick discovered how to travel across the universe indication that he is only taking advantage of natural laws that already exist and therefore shouldn't destabilize the universe by being employed? And though I have no proof, I imagine if said laws exist, it also accounts for the possibility that somebody would use said laws to split a universe into two possibilities (one in which he did and did not travel to). Or am I just a victim of flawed logic on this one?

I think you're overthinking a plot device. There are some assumptions made and some facts ignored (or forgotten), to put a story in a place. Sure, it's likely to create some plot holes, but I really don't need to be picking on them as long as the story is good.

Yeah... that was my initial thoughts about the Film Theory Video... but then I let it slosh around in my brain for a while I suddenly saw what I perceived to be a hole in his argument i couldn't ignore...
Then again, one of the things that I loved about Rick and Morty is despite all of their putting things back into place before the next episode, there is a surprising amount of internal consistency.
